One of the More Eloquent Emails from the Gamblers, by Ed Hunt

Lu is right, I was remiss in failing to respond.

I am all about a game at the Academy – after all, I was the one who planted the seed for SMU-Navy before I realized that I was going to be out of town elsewhere that weekend. And I want to see Army-Navy as well; like Gall, that’s something I would like to check off my list. But I think if we plan it a little bit we might be able to get better seats for an affordable price. Plus, the game will be rotating to some different and exciting venues in future years:

As for blame, many of the Gamblers have family commitments that are legitimate priorities. Life intervenes at some point – let’s face it, we ain’t a bunch of beer-swilling college kids any more. But I have to give Roberti a pass this year. With his family commitments somewhat diminished in the last 18 months, the big question on the Roberti front is: has the Cheezer mixed any white chicks into his dating scene? Berti is like me, we both like our women with a little slant to them….

But whether a true “Pokermania” event comes off this year, or a Pokermania Lite, there’s always next year. And 20 out of 21 ain’t too shabby; if we miss this one, then like Joe DiMaggio, we simply start a new streak next year.

Chicken a la zhen forever,

Dallas Last Year - Turbo Unleashes

If there's a camera involved, Turbo will perform. Here he is exhibiting PokerMania Day One excitement and showing exactly how happy he is about the suite at the Anatole that Ed was able to line up.

Ed or Bird asked the host, "Gall, can we pee in your yard?" To which he responded, "Can you??? Pffft....I encourage you! Please, let fly!"

Kinda' hard to see (clicking on image expands it) , but that's GALL's 169....rolled with a busted neck. Let's not forget Saad checking in with a solid 157. Lou was our baggage. Roberti, Ed, Surtani didn't stand a chance.....

Roberti once said that Saad would be Gambler most likely to be a little "curious." I think fondling his dog's balls might be the closest he'll get.

Think Surtani's having fun? Think I've already lost about $38? Think Lou's getting a little nervous around Joe with that finger stickin' up?

Here's one from 2004.....at Parasol's.....the world's greatest bar!!!....the bar to end all bars!!!......the one where the bartender will actually pour your beer at no extra charge!!!!

The Doctor's Eplilogue for PokerMania XX

May 17, 2007
I didn't take any notes on fart magnitudes or bizarre Saad comments so this is off the top of my head. Pokermania XX, like all others a successful outing. Golf had it's share of shanks, dubs, and hooks but the Gall/Saad team prevailed over Ed/Lou. Those teams not exactly fair, though.

In the gambling arena, going to the track was a winner.......in more ways than one as I grossed about $160. And the bet of the night was the 10-cent Superfecta all-boxed in the last two races. Not a big payoff but it's nice to have a guaranteed winning ticket and hope for a longshot to come in. This year's poker game lasted about only about 3 or 4 hours. Plenty for me but is but a start for Saad types. Oh, well. At least I played and even won the first hand....which is exactly one more than I won last year. Of course, Roberti took most of the $$$ followed by Big Ed. Remember how these card games turned into drunken free-for-alls after about an hour and a half? No longer. We went through maybe 4 beers the whole game.

Rangers/Angels was what naps are made of. What a crummy team. Stadium was about 1/3 full on a sunny Saturday afternoon and you can just tell that Ranger fans have about zero hope/interest. Best part of the afternoon was Ed winning about $55 on the moundball game.

Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the dinner at Bob's. It may have set us back $88 each ($150 for Lou, thanks to a $42 scotch....yikes) but that steak was the best I've ever had. Period.

Great hotel rooms courtesy Ed Hunt. Notice how EVERYONE locked their connecting doors.......mostly to keep Roberti out. Great health club, no charge for guests. Try that in Vegas.

Onto 2008. Sites for next year were discussed and the unofficial calender shows that Nimu Surtani is scheduled to be host. Certainly, this is an option on your part, Nimu. Lou offered to host in Baltimore if you didn't feel like it. But the sooner we can secure a site and date (I know it's a bit early) the easier it is for others to work it into their schedules.

Thanks to hosts Ed/Joe. Would've been better to have Skow/Surtani there but Skow's situation most understandable. Nimu, we need you to control Roberti. Here's hoping it's a full squad next year.
